Homework & Projects

Each lesson of ProgramLive provides homework exercises. These exercises typically require you to write short program segments that deal with the methods and concepts of the lesson. They may also require execution of the program segments on a computer. Many exercises may ask you to use some already-written programs, which are just a few mouse clicks away. (Tools > List Programs)

Projects are substantial programming exercises that may take a week or two to finish. They may be done in teams of two students. For many of these projects, you start with a completed program from which some code has been removed. This has several advantages: you learn to read a well-designed and well-written program; you end up working in a mode that is often used in industry, where one maintains an already existing program; and the resulting program that you create can be far larger and more realistic than one that you would complete if you programmed entirely from scratch.
